The little you have
“There is a lad here which hath five barley loaves and two small fishes, but what are they among so many?” [questioned the disciples] ... And Jesus took the loaves and when he had given thanks, he distributed to the disciples and the disciples to them that were set down and likewise of the fishes as much as they would
Most of us are familiar with the story of the feeding of the five thousand. This story not only reveals our Lord’s interest in the well-being of the crowd and His miraculous power, but also His ability to take whatever we have and make it something great.
More can be done with the little you have in the hands of Jesus, than in your hands. It would still be five loaves and two small fishes in the hands of the lad. As long as the boy kept it he would have been able to only feed himself and maybe a friend or two. It wasn’t going to change in his hands. He could have held on tight to his five loaves and two little fishes and miss probably the greatest miracle he has ever experienced.
A little boy’s willingness to give his bread and his little fishes changed the lives of a great multitude forever.
All it took was a lad, five loaves, and two small fishes in the hand of Jesus. What you have to give to the service of the Lord may seem insignificant to you and others, but give it, because you may be holding back the little things that God needs in His hand to change the life of a dying community.
